2010 “Shangri-La” Grenache Blanc

Originally thought to be the red variety of grenache; we planted several rows
of this varietal, with the intention of using it as blending grape.  In the second
year, when fruit set, we patiently awaited for the ripening of these golden
globes to the expected ruby color of a ripe grenache grape.  Boy, were we
surprised when they never turned!  After some investigation, we discovered
that the wrong grapes were sent!  All is well though, as it turned out to be a
pleasant surprise.  We produced a small batch for our own consumption that
year, and our friends and family loved this crisp, refreshing wine, from this so
rarely acknowledged varietal.  We decided to plant more and add it to our
wine line-up, so now you can enjoy it too! We are now one of only a handful of
growers in California to grow and produce wine from these wonderful grapes.

Tasting Notes:

Abundant aromas of citrus and apricot make way for a crisp, acidic and
refreshing tangy mouth feel.  The acidity is balanced by bold fruit flavors with
a big forward pineapple, hints of apple and ripe melon.  This wine pairs well
with a nice salty prosciutto & melon platter, especially on a hot summer day.

Our Inspiration:

Shangri-La is said to be an earthly paradise where life approaches
perfection.  It is a mystical and harmonious land that exists hidden from the
outside world.  To many the Ojai Valley is Shangri-La, with its glowing sunsets
and magnificent mountain landscapes.  It is a mystical valley, with healing
spas and natural springs, where time tends to lose its meaning as the rest of
the world fades away.  Even the earth of the valley seems to impart a special
character to anything that grows here.
