2008 Topa Topa Syrah Reserve
This wine was our first reserve vintage. We hand
selected the best fruit from the 2008 harvest for our
reserve, and allowed the juice extended skin contact
during fermentation. Our Topa Topa Syrah Reserve
was our first ever submission into a competition, and
received a bronze medal from the esteemed
2011 San Francisco International Wine Competition.
Tasting Notes:
Deep, dark, ruby colored; exhibits aromas of vanilla, blackberry, dark cherry,
cracked pepper, and chocolate. Smooth and jammy on the palate, with hints
of blackberry, chocolate, spice, and vanillin-oak. Medium to full bodied, with
a smooth, warm finish, pairs well with hearty flavorful meals.
Our Inspiration:
The majestic Topa Topa Mountains provide the scenic background that the
Ojai Valley has become famous for. The range soars to an elevation of 6,716
feet at its highest point, Hines Peak, where snow can be seen during winter. It
is thought that the Chumash Indians declared the Ojai Valley sacred in part
because of the unusual transverse nature of these bluffs, which cause the
sun to rise at one end of the valley and set at the other. At sunset, the
Topa Topa’s rocky westward face catches a spectacular rosy glow creating
Ojai’s famous “pink moment”.
