2010 Old Winery Zinfandel
We are proud to release our very first vintage of Zinfandel wine. While this
vintage was created from relatively new vines, the wine has all the
characteristics of an exceptional wine in the making. We recently poured our
Old Winery Zin at a pre-release tasting, and it received high marks from those
in attendance. These grapes had enjoyed a relatively warm summer in the
Upper Ojai Valley, and were hand harvested in late September.
Tasting Notes:
This ruby colored Zin exhibits aromas of raspberries, plum and white pepper.
Fruit forward on the palate, with hints of rapsberry, cherry and spice.
Medium-bodied with mellow tanins and a fruity finish. Pairs well with your
favorite BBQ meal.
Our Inspiration:
The tradition of wine making on what is now the Boccali Ranch, began in the
late 1800’s, and continued up until Prohibition. Local legend is, that federal
agents discovered the small family winery nestled in the hillside and raided
the operation one fateful day. Agents smashed the barrels, disposing of the
wine into a dry creek below the winery. The wine, rumored to have been
Zinfandel, flowed down the creek on a sea of hardened tar from a natural
seep below; only to be scooped up and consumed by the neighbors further
downstream. That marked the end of wine making on the property
until the Boccali family began replanting vines in 2004.
